Short-Term Entry & Tourist Rules
US citizens can visit for up to 6 months visa-free for tourism.
Long-Term Residency Paths
Salary: Minimum salary of £38,700, rising to £41,700+ for many roles. Your employer must be a Home Office-approved sponsor.
Path: A Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from your employer is required to apply.
Savings: £1,334/month (London) or £1,023/month (Outside London) for up to 9 months.
Note: Graduation opens the 'Graduate Visa' (2 years of work rights).
Path: If you are a Commonwealth citizen and have a grandparent born in the UK, you can apply for a 5-year work visa. This is not immediate citizenship, but a path towards it.
Family Inclusion
Dependents (spouse, children) can join, but the primary applicant must meet an increased Minimum Income Requirement, which now stands at £29,000 and is set to rise further.
